Bold and resinous, with a bright, citrusy nish, this IPA is a tribute to the decades of efforts by conservationists to restore the health of our rivers, culminating in the great return of the Atlantic sturgeon.
Fed by springs high in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the James River is the predominant source of Virginia’s drinking (and brewing) water. With numerous tributaries, including the creek that runs through our backyard at Hardywood West Creek, the mighty James ows through Richmond and into the Chesapeake Bay. We rst brewed Great Return in 2012, as a tribute to the decades of hard work by conservationists to restore the James River as a bounty of vibrant aquatic life and eco-friendly recreational activity, which led to the symbolic return of the endangered Atlantic sturgeon. This prehistoric, yet majestic behemoth of a sh has been observed spawning as far up the James as the fall line in Richmond, each year in increasing numbers. While the health of the river is improving, there’s still a long way to go. Your purchase of this beer supports the James River Association, and its mission to be a guardian of the James River. The James River Association provides a voice for the river and takes action to promote conservation and responsible stewardship of its natural resources.
