You can’t spend every weekend in Las Vegas, but you can bring a bit of Las Vegas into every weekend.
An excellent way to start is with a round of bomb shots, also known as drop shots — like a classic jager bomb. This drink consists of a liquor-heavy shot submerged in a larger glass and surrounded by another liquid, like beer or an energy drink. We promise it’s every bit as strong as it sounds.
As with most things Vegas, this shot named for the world’s party capital is over the top. It combines three kinds of liquor and a high-powered energy drink. It’s the kind of cocktail that sets the tone of an evening: spirited, lively, and a little bit wild.
If the original drink sounds too intense for your weekend plans, fear not. Once you know what’s in a Vegas bomb shot, you can adjust the ingredients as desired. Omit one of the liquors, pour a smaller shot, or use peach soda or seltzer instead of an energy drink. The resulting Vegas Bomb recipe won’t taste quite the same, but the trade-off will definitely be worth it when you wake up without a splitting headache. Whatever variety you mix up, be sure to raise your glass to Sin City. Viva Las Vegas!
How to make a Vegas Bomb drink
Preparation time: 2 minutes
Cooking time: None
Total time: 2 minutes
Servings: 1
Ingredients:
¼ ounce Crown Royal Whisky
¼ ounce peach schnapps
¼ ounce Malibu Coconut Rum
¼ ounce cranberry juice
Approximately 8.5 ounces of Red Bull or similar energy drink
Glassware:
Pint glass
Shot glass
Preparation instructions
Combine the Crown Royal, peach schnapps, Malibu rum, and cranberry juice in a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice. Strain into a large shot glass.
Place the shot glass at the bottom of a pint glass and carefully fill the space around the shot with the energy drink until the liquid comes up to the rim of the shot glass.
Shoot the drink back — energy drink, shot, and all — being careful not to let the shot glass slam into your teeth. That’s a rough way to ruin a weekend. Be mindful of the glassware, too, when you tip them together.

Variations: other recipes with vegas bomb ingredients
Vegas Bomb jello shots: If bomb shots sound too messy for your Friday night at home with friends, you may want to consider making Vegas-Bomb-themed Jell-O shots. Jell-O shots aren’t just for college students!
First, boil 6 ounces of peach Jell-O and stir in 2 ounces of Red Bull before the mixture cools. Then, once the Jell-O mix has reached room temperature (after all, we’re not trying to burn off the alcohol in this shot), add the 2 ounces of coconut rum and 2 ounces of Crown Royal and stir. Pour into individual serving cups or an ice cube tray and refrigerate. Let the shooters solidify before serving.
Crown and Red Bull: Sometimes called a cherry bomb, this tall drink combines a shot of Crown Royal whisky and a nearly full glass of Red Bull energy drink. Pour Crown Royal into a glass, and top off with Red Bull. It’s straightforward and saves you the mess of making and shooting a bomb shot. Serve over ice to keep the drink cool as you enjoy it.
Other Crown Royal mixed drinks: Feeling royal? You can use this sweet Canadian whisky variety in several fruity cocktails. Instead of preparing a classic whiskey sour, mix up a similar cocktail with Crown Royal, simple sugar, and lemon juice. You can also substitute the vodka in a Moscow Mule for Crown Royal, making what we’d like to call a “Canadian Mule.” Crown Royal is a versatile liquor and is a bit sweeter than other hard liquors, so add it to your Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, or even soda for a candied take on classic cocktails.

Other Red Bull alcohol drinks: Perhaps the most ubiquitous Red Bull drink of all time is a Red Bull and Vodka. This two-ingredient cocktail tastes like cherries and gummy bears but is loaded with booze and caffeine. To make one, simply pour a shot of vodka in a rocks glass over ice and top up with Red Bull. Top with a Maraschino cherry to make the drink look as good as it tastes (and feels). Many bartenders have put their own mark on this drink, amping it up with schnapps, Hypnotiq, or blue curaçao.
Other Vegas-themed cocktails: Shake up a High Roller by combining 1 shot of gin, 1 shot of dry vermouth, and half-shots of both triple sec and apricot brandy.
You could try out your Poker Face by shaking up 1 ½ ounces of tequila, 4 ounces of pineapple juice, and one-half ounce of Cointreau orange liqueur and straining into a highball glass filled with ice cubes.
Tasting Lady Luck becomes an option, too, when you combine 2 ounces of gin and 1 ounce of blue curaçao with plenty of ice in a shaker. Strain into a hurricane glass over ice and top up with orange juice. Don’t be alarmed by the funky green color.
If you aren’t in the mood to play bartender, you can always pop some bubbly and live your best life.
Whatever mixology you choose, garnish your drinks with lime slices, Maraschino cherries, and cheeky cocktail umbrellas. Vegas is all about not taking life too seriously.
