December 22, 2021
Desserts and cocktails are two of life’s greatest joys, so it only makes sense to combine them. This is where the dessert martini comes in, double as a nightcap and an indulgent chocolate treat wrapped into one.
A chocolate martini’s ingredients depend on the recipe. Most chocolate martinis contain vodka as the main liquor component. Of course, the other key ingredient is chocolate, but this component comes in many forms, from chocolate-flavored liqueur to cocoa powder. Below, we’ll show you a Godiva chocolate martini recipe and how to make rich or light variations.
Despite their differences in ingredients and preparations, all these martini recipes have one thing in common: they’re for chocolate lovers only. Get your sweet tooth ready.
Preparation time: 3 minutes
Cooking time: None
Total time: 3 minutes
Servings: 1
Ingredients
1 ½ ounces Godiva liqueur (the dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or white chocolate variety; mixologist’s choice)
¾ ounce vodka
Preparation instructions
Combine the Godiva chocolate liqueur and vodka in a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice cubes.
After shaking well, strain the liquid into a martini glass.
Garnish the drink with a truffle and sip away at your sweet, rich chocolate Godiva martini.
Bartender’s Tip: You can change the flavor profile of this drink easily by using a different flavor of Godiva liqueur. Make a white chocolate martini by using the corresponding flavor of liqueur and garnishing the cocktail with a white chocolate truffle. Try the others to determine which is your favorite.

Variations: other chocolate cocktail recipes
Creamy chocolate martinis
What could make a chocolate cocktail topped with a truffle even more decadent? The answer is: cream. This recipe features rich liqueurs and half-and-half for a drink that is more dessert than cocktail. Don’t worry—it still has a kick.
To make, crush up one-quarter cup of chocolate chips. These will be used on the rim of the glass, so set them aside on a flat plate for now. Melt another one-quarter cup of chocolate. If you’ve never melted chocolate before, keep in mind that the process goes very quickly in the microwave, and the chips can dry out or, worse, burn. Heat the chocolate in 10-second intervals. You can also heat chocolate using the double-boiler method, which entails placing a snugly-fitting bowl on top of a saucepan of boiling water. Since the hot water makes contact with the bowl, whatever you put in that bowl—in this case, chocolate chips—will heat up slowly without burning or drying out.
Once you’ve melted the chocolate, transfer it to a pastry bag to decorate the glasses. If melting chocolate will take too much of your time, substitute a chocolate sauce. Draw a swirl of melted chocolate or syrup around the inside of two martini glasses and around the rim. Dip the glasses into the crushed chocolate chips to coat the rims.
Now, it’s time to shake up the drink. Add 1 ½ ounces of Godiva Milk Chocolate Liqueur, 1 ½ ounces of crème de cacao, one-half ounce of vodka, and 2 ½ ounces of half-and-half to a cocktail shaker with ice. After shaking well, strain the drink into two martini glasses and enjoy.
Bartender’s tip: Martinis of all varieties are best served cold, so place your glass in the refrigerator for thirty minutes before preparing your drink. Some recipes even call for leaving the glasses in the freezer to keep your drink cold.
Skinny chocolate martini
Somedays, a decadent drink just feels right, but other times you crave one that’s lighter. This chocolate vodka recipe is flavorful but not overwhelming. This adaptation cuts out the creamy chocolate liqueur and replaces it with low-fat nut milk, natural sweetener, and powdered chocolate. The resulting drink is every bit as strong as a regular martini but less heavy than the chocolate recipes above.
To make two skinny chocolate martinis, liquify 4 ounces of unsweetened plant milk like cashew or almond, 2 ounces of vodka, 1 ½ ounces of white crème de cacao, 1 ½ teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, and one-half ounce of agave nectar, honey, or other natural sweetener in a blender. Using a blender helps ensure that ingredients like agave or cocoa powder mix fully into the drink. Pour the blended liquid into two chilled martini glasses, and enjoy this light, refreshing chocolate drink. Garnish the cocktail with a strawberry.

Chocolate martini with Baileys
This chocolate martini recipe is the literal crème de la crème, featuring not one by two cream liqueurs. What’s more, it’s topped off with a big dollop of whipped cream.
To make, combine 4 ounces of Baileys irish cream, 2 ounces of vodka, and 2 ounces of crème de cacao in a cocktail shaker with ice. After shaking, strain the cocktail into two chilled martini glasses and top with whipped cream. For even more chocolate, you can prepare your martini glasses as shown in the section above for “creamy chocolate martinis.” Swirl chocolate syrup around the inside of the glass, and garnish the rim with crushed chips or chocolate shavings before pouring in the mixed drink. And, if you want to go all out, serve with a scoop of chocolate ice cream in place of—or in addition to—the whipped cream garnish.
