Ketchup and Ice Cream, Allergy Medicine and Pet Products, Oh My!

At Gopuff, we have a saying – “we don’t judge, we deliver” – and while, yes, we don’t judge, our customers have had some crazy carts over the years! For a bit of fun, we recently took a look at what people have been ordering on Gopuff and picked out some of the most interesting combinations. Here are a few of our favorites: 

• Sleep Aid Capsules + Energy Drinks

• Ketchup + Ice Cream

• Canned Tuna + Marinara Sauce (….?)

• Diapers + Condoms

As we dug into the order data, we also saw a few unique categories bubble up:

Alcohol & Baby or Pet Products

Taking care of a baby can be stressful, and at 10 o’clock at night, we’re sure parents are feeling the pressure. We found that the pairing of alcohol and baby products really wasn’t that unheard of, with these kinds of order combos:

• Hard Seltzer + Baby Wipes 

• Whiskey + Baby Wipes

• Hard Lemonade + Baby Wipes

These types of purchases are heavily concentrated on Fridays and Saturdays from 6-10 p.m., showing us that these new parents may want to sneak in a (quiet) drink to unwind between the baby finally falling asleep and then being up again at 1 a.m.

On the pet side of things, we’re seeing people buy a combination of hard seltzers and pet treats, including:

• Hard Seltzer + Bully Sticks

• Hard Seltzer + Meaty Bits Cat Food 

• Hard Lemonade + Peanut Butter and Cheese Cups (for the dog)

Allergy Medicine & Pet Products

People will do anything for their pets… apparently even including being allergic to them while also giving them endless snuggles, given these orders we’ve seen:

• Allergy Tablets + Meaty Bites Canned Cat Food

• Allergy Tablets + Cat Chow and Kitten Chow

Seems Gopuff customers love their cats! It’s interesting, but maybe not surprising, to see these combinations commonly ordered between 6-10 p.m., seemingly in the window after work where people would have the most quality time with their pets. 

Junk Food & One Single Banana

Our research shows Gopuff customers certainly indulge in addition to making “better-for-you choices,” but hot fries and a banana? Seems like they’re on to something with these top interesting combos:

• Strawberry Mochi Ice Cream + a single organic banana

• Hot Fries + an organic banana 

• Mango Mochi Ice Cream + another single organic banana 

People are purchasing these things together all days of the week, with the timing heavily concentrated in the 8 p.m. – 12 a.m window, showing us that some customers may try to counteract these late-night snacks by adding a single healthy item to their cart. 

Spicy Products & Dairy Products or Toilet Paper

We know that people rely on milk to cool down after eating something spicy, but we never expected to see the combinations that some Gopuff customers have been ordering. Here are some other fun finds: 

• Hot Fries + Vanilla Yogurt with Chocolate Candy

• Hot Chili Pepper & Lime Tortilla Chips + Cream Cheese 

• Toilet Paper + Hot Fries
