Does ‘Falling-Back’ Impact Our Morning Routines?

As the days get shorter and the temperature gets cooler, Daylight Savings is upon us once again, here to give us an extra hour of sleep (and earlier sunlight). With the time change approaching this weekend, we wondered: what are Gopuff customers ordering when we ‘fall back?’ 

To best understand the effects of Daylight Savings on our purchasing behaviors, we compared order volume during the weekend of the time change with the two weekends before and after. We found people are quick to order more on Gopuff the morning after Daylight Savings with a 37% and 29% jump in sales during the morning after fall-back, in 2020 and 2019 respectively. 

With the extra hour of sleep, customers are waking up ready to go and especially active during the 6-11 a.m. window. But, despite the extra rest, customers still are looking for a morning boost: Gopuff customers over-indexed on coffee, energy, cereal, and juice products the day after Daylight Savings.
