Silver & Blanco

The blue agave used to make tequila takes up to 10 years to fully mature before harvesting before it is sent off to a distillery. This process typically only utilizes the heart of the agave plant, called the pina. The pina is oven roasted before being shred to a pulpy material and mixed with water and yeast to ferment. After a couple of weeks, this mixture is distilled two or three times before being packaged for consumption. Other tequila variants may be transferred to oak barrels at this point for months, or even years to develop a different flavor palette. By the time silver or blanco tequila is finished with processing at a distillery, it contains an alcohol content of roughly 40%. Gold vs Silver tequila For those who enjoy a more robust, smooth flavor, gold tequila may be preferred to its silver counterpart. Aged in various wooden barrels over an extended period of time, gold tequila is made to be sipped slowly. The time spent in wooden barrels, typically oak, determines the depth of color that a gold tequila possesses. Thus, it may be referred to as gold, amber, or carmel tequila. What does blanco tequila taste like? Never aging in oak barrels, and instead being packaged in stainless steel containers immediately after distillation, silver and blanco tequila contains up to 100% Agave. As an un-aged spirit, silver tequila or blanco tequila can be described as having an earthy flavor with hints of citrus and pepper. Silver and blanco tequila is tequila in its purest form. The taste of this pure tequila may be too harsh for some casual drinkers, but it can also be described as sweet, staying true to the agave flavor.
