Supporting Our Communities in 2022

Thinking big, moving fast and showing up locally in the areas that matter most to the communities we serve.

January 12, 2023

Gopuff is committed to impact-based giving to support the many communities where we operate – thinking big, moving fast, and showing up locally in the areas that matter most to the people we serve. In 2022, we are proud to have had the opportunity to work with many partners across the country to make an impact in our communities. From working with the American Red Cross to support disaster relief to partnering with Feeding America® to fight food insecurity and reduce waste, we look forward to continuing to make a meaningful impact in 2023.

In 2022, Gopuff donated nearly 1.2 million pounds of food, redirected another 600,000 pounds of food from going to waste, committed hundreds of thousands of dollars to disaster relief, and donated thousands of COVID-19 test kits, toiletries, personal care items, and school supplies to communities in need. Reducing Food Waste & Combating Food Insecurity

Since 2019, we’ve joined with Feeding America to help provide over a million meals* to local food banks across the U.S to help combat food insecurity through food rescue efforts. In fact, our food donations have steadily increased year-over-year since 2019. From January to November 2022, Gopuff locations donated over 1,200,000 pounds* of food to the Feeding America network of food banks for neighbors in need.

In 2022, we launched the GoBags program in the UK, where we’re able to help ensure all food items are used for meals, rather than going to waste. Through this new program, we offer discounted bags of food and drink that are close to their expiration dates to customers across the UK. The program helps reduce food waste and also gives customers access to high-quality products at affordable prices. Through the new GoBags program, we have reduced food waste by nearly 154,000 lbs (70,000 kg) and offset our carbon footprint by an estimated 480,000 lbs (218,000 kg).

In the UK, Gopuff is also integrated with Too Good To Go, a platform that helps us sell discounted “Magic Bags” of surplus food to customers, further reducing food waste. Through Too Good to Go, we have redirected some 440,000 lbs (200,000 kgs) of food from going to waste, translating to over 70,000 meals! In addition, by redirecting this food from going to waste, we have saved an estimated 180 tons of CO2e from being used needlessly.

Supporting Our Communities

Over the past year, we’ve donated thousands of essentials, personal care items, Gopuff credits and dollars to Covenant House, a non-profit that gives shelter and support to youth who are experiencing homelessness and/or are survivors of human trafficking. LGBTQIA+ youth make up an estimated 40% of all youth experiencing homelessness. So, to mark Pride, Gopuff donated $1 for every product purchased from our Pride Parade Collection on the Gopuff platform to support LGBTQIA+ youth at Covenant House. As a result of the campaign, Gopuff donated $15,000.

It is only through partnerships like this with Gopuff that we are able to help our amazing, resilient young people at Covenant House pursue the great promise of their lives,” said Kevin Ryan, CEO and President of Covenant House.

This year, Gopuff donated 100,000 COVID tests to Baby2Baby to support kids and families who otherwise struggle to get access to affordable and reliable COVID-19 testing. Baby2Baby is a nonprofit organization at the forefront of COVID-19 relief that provides essentials to children living in poverty. We are so grateful for their partnership to distribute these tests, along with groceries, diapers, hygiene items, and more to vulnerable children and families who need them the most.

We continued to support the youth in our communities by getting involved in back-to-school campaigns in Chicago and New York City, donating 800 notebooks, 1,200 pencil sharpeners, 3,200 pencils, 4,000 pens, and 400 packs of crayons across three school drives. Beyond each of these initiatives, Gopuff regularly donates essentials to not-for-profits across the country as we look to support every community in which we operate.

Gopuff also partnered with James Harden’s Impact 13 organization to empower women and youth. Together, we visited HBCUs and brought with us the founders of Gopuff's Put Me On brands. College students met with the founders, asked them questions about their Black-owned businesses and what it takes to be an entrepreneur, tried their products, and even pitched their own business ideas. With the Impact13 foundation, we also took youth residents from Covenant House NY to Barclay’s center for a game and supported Impact 13’s Mothers Day breakfast for single moms.

We were proud to support the remarkable young female entrepreneurs at Girl Scouts of Central Indiana by purchasing over 8,400 packages of Girl Scout Cookies, helping them reach their cookie program goals and supporting their Leadership Experience. The funds helped cover costs like membership fees, uniforms, badges, and program and camp fees to make these experiences more accessible to every girl.

Responding to Disasters

Gopuff partners with The American Red Cross to help support disaster relief efforts. Through the partnership, Gopuff committed $450,000 in financial and in-kind donations to help ensure the Red Cross is prepared to meet the needs of people affected by disasters across the U.S. Gopuff and the Red Cross also launched a first-of-its-kind pilot in our hometown: When disaster strikes in Philadelphia, Red Cross caseworkers identify those impacted and determine what is needed and where. Local Gopuff locations in Philadelphia then collect the items needed and deliver to those affected. Read more

On September 28, Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida, leaving catastrophic damage in its wake. As part of our continued commitment to supporting our communities when they need us most, and through our partnership with the Red Cross, Gopuff deployed two trucks carrying 23,502 products, mostly protein bars and healthy snacks, to Red Cross shelters in Arcadia and Fort Myers, Florida to support those impacted. When disaster struck in Kentucky, Gopuff provided 5 pallets of food and essentials to the Eastern Kentucky Dream Center for flood relief in 2022, building on our commitment to supporting this community. We also had the opportunity to donate food and essentials to Keyway Center for Diversion & Reentry to support those impacted by flooding in St. Louis this past year.
