Supporting Our Communities in 2023

In 2023, Gopuff launched several initiatives to combat food insecurity and support our communities.

Gopuff is committed to impact-based giving to support the many communities where we operate — it’s paramount to us that we think big, move fast, and show up locally in the ways that matter most to the people we serve. With the central goal of fighting food insecurity and reducing waste, we are proud to have made an impact in many of our communities in 2023 and look forward to continuing this mission in the new year.

Combating Food Insecurity & Reducing Food Waste

Through Gopuff’s commitment to reducing food insecurity, our micro-fulfillment centers and employees work with local food banks in the Feeding America network to regularly donate groceries to those in need. Since 2022, Gopuff has donated nearly 2 million pounds of food to those in need via Feeding America partner food banks across the country, helping provide more than 2.3 million meals.*

Gopuff partnered with The Greater Boston Food Bank during Hunger Action Month to help address food insecurity, participating in the annual WCVB Day of Giving Telethon by volunteering to answer phones and providing a cash donation.

In addition to supporting the televent, Gopuff ran an in-app campaign to help raise awareness and funds for The Greater Boston Food Bank. For every product purchased from the Hunger Action Month category in Boston this September, Gopuff donated $1 to The Greater Boston Food Bank.

As a result of those efforts, Gopuff is proud to announce a total donation of $50,000 to support The Greater Boston Food Banks's fight against hunger.

“We are facing unprecedented need in our community brought on by several overlapping emergencies that are putting many of our neighbors in financial distress, grappling with the high cost of living and having to make tough decisions every day between paying for food, housing, healthcare, or other basic needs,” said Catherine D’Amato, GBFB’s President and CEO. “It takes great community partners like Gopuff to see this problem and take action to make a real difference. We are so grateful to Gopuff for your generosity which will provide 100,000 healthy meals to help GBFB feed Eastern Massachusetts.”

On the West Coast, Gopuff joined forces with WNBA All-Star and Seattle Storm Veteran Jewell Loyd to provide hundreds of food items, drinks and snacks for a movie night at Mary's Place, a nonprofit supporting families experiencing homelessness.

Gopuff also donated hundreds of Good Eat'n plant-based snacks to Angel Reese's Back to School Giveback Block Party in Baltimore.

In support of the Louisville food bank Dare to Care’s Taste of Derby Festival, Gopuff donated raffle auction items which helped raise $13,500, equating to 40,500 meals for neighbors of Kentuckiana.

In 2022, Gopuff launched the GoBags program in the UK, where we’re able to help ensure all food items are used for meals, rather than going to waste. Through this program, we offer discounted bags of fruit, vegetables, meat and fish that are close to their expiration dates to customers across the UK. The program helps reduce food waste and also gives customers access to high-quality products at affordable prices. Through the GoBags program, we prevented more than 108,000 grocery items from going to waste in 2023.

Supporting Our Communities

In April, our local Miami team was proud to support Clean Miami Beach for an Earth Day beach clean-up. Together with more than 100 volunteers, our team helped remove an incredible 540 pounds of litter and debris from Miami Beach.

In Washington, D.C., Gopuff and Van Ness Main Street (VNMS) partnered to uplift local artists and beautify the Van Ness Business Corridor. During Art All Night in D.C. this September, the work of three local artists — now installed in the windows of Gopuff’s store on Connecticut Avenue — was unveiled to the public! Congratulations again to the students of Murch Elementary School and University of District of Columbia for being selected.

Van Ness Main Street Board VP Carolyn Godavitarne said, “We are thrilled to partner with Gopuff and our local art community to continue enhancing our neighborhood through art and culture. Bringing together local artists to share their talent with the Van Ness Main Street community and everyone who travels the Connecticut Avenue corridor is at the heart of our mission.”

For the second year in a row, Gopuff sponsored and participated in Style Saves Miami’s Back-to-School event at the MANA Wynwood Convention Center. Gopuff donated $43,000 worth of food to the event which attracted 15,000 students for a weekend filled with fun and all things school. The annual Back-To-School event enables students and families to come ‘shop’ for new uniforms, sneakers, school supplies, accessories and more in a department store-style setting.

As we look ahead to 2024, Gopuff remains committed to ensuring our communities have access to the groceries they need right when they need them. The impact of food insecurity on our communities requires a multifaceted approach, and we look forward to continuing to innovate to show up for those in need.
