Listening to Our Delivery Partners

84% of delivery partners said having the flexibility to choose how and when they earn is important to them.

At Gopuff, many of our core values are centered on powering innovation and continuous improvement. These values also inform our approach to working with partners and vendors; we frequently check in with our partners, sharing our own learnings and working together to identify ways in which we can improve or work more efficiently. 

When it comes to our delivery partners, we send out regular surveys and continually gather their feedback, then work to enhance the delivery partner experience based on their direct input. For example, last year we launched Instant Cash Out (used by nearly 80% of partners surveyed), enhanced earnings transparency, partnered with Stride, which provides access to health insurance coverage, introduced discounts on groceries and fuel (used by nearly 40% of partners) and much more

More recently, we’ve enhanced in-app functions to simplify the process for accepting or rejecting trips and provided more detailed information about a trip in the app so that delivery partners can make more educated decisions and maximize their time on the platform. Looking towards the next few months, we will be rolling out a new in-app tool designed to provide delivery partners with real-time information about current demand levels at each Gopuff micro-fulfillment center or store in their delivery network, helping them make more informed decisions about when and where to go online to deliver on-demand.

Looking back on the results from our most recent delivery partner surveys, we see similar feedback to what partners have shared with us time and again: delivery partners engage with Gopuff because of the flexibility it offers and because of our unique model. Delivery partners have busy lives. Many are caretakers while others might have full-time jobs outside of their time spent earning with Gopuff. Engaging with Gopuff provides each of these individuals with the flexibility to earn when they want, on their own time – without having to deal with strangers in their vehicles or shopping store shelves they’re unfamiliar with. 

Flexibility and autonomy are of the utmost importance. 

Unlike most third-party delivery and ride-share companies, Gopuff offers local opportunities for people to earn with us as either independent contractors or as salaried or hourly employees. If someone wants to be an employee, they can do so as a part of our local micro-fulfillment center, store or corporate teams. On the other hand, if someone wants flexibility and the freedom to work on their own schedule, they can become a delivery partner and work as an independent contractor. So, it’s not surprising that Gopuff delivery partners consistently rate flexibility as the most important factor in choosing this earning opportunity.

  • 77% of delivery partners said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the flexibility aspect of their Gopuff experience.

In one delivery partner’s words, “I'm the boss of my work days. I get to decide what time I start, and end work. As a boss, I pick which locations to work, and how many locations in one day I would like to work.” Others shared that they like being able to make their own hours, or that this level of flexibility enables them to achieve work-life balance. 

Delivering with Gopuff enables partners to earn while accommodating their busy lives. 

Gopuff delivery partners live full, busy, and varied lives, making the ability to earn on a flexible schedule incredibly important. For most, Gopuff is not their only earning opportunity.

70% of surveyed partners said they earn money outside of their time with Gopuff:

  • 38% work full-time elsewhere

  • 50% are currently partnering with other ride-hailing or delivery platforms

  • 26% have other self-employment earnings

  • 15%

    work part-time elsewhere

Beyond their busy working schedules, Gopuff partners also juggle many important responsibilities in their personal lives, making flexible work even more valuable. Others might be retired and looking to earn extra cash without committing to a set schedule:

  • 37% care for a child or children either as a single parent (20%) or with a partner (17%)

  • 13% are full- or part-time students

  • 5% care for an elderly loved one

  • 7% are retired

  • 6% are veterans

Knowing how busy our partners are, it’s not surprising that 68% of delivery partners work less than ten hours per week and 85% work less than 20 hours per week. As one delivery partner shared, “I’m in nursing school, the flexibility of Gopuff is working for me.”

The Gopuff difference: a simplified and stress-free pickup process.

When asked why they choose to partner with Gopuff, about 20% of delivery partners cited “not having to deal with passengers, restaurants, grocery stores, etc.” Some partners anecdotally shared similar feedback, stating that they deliver only with Gopuff - and not other ride-share or delivery platforms - because:

  • “I like the flexibility along with not having to deal with small parties or share my vehicle, restaurants, grocery stores, etc.”

  • “Not having to deal with 3rd parties [or] share my vehicle”

  • “One pick-up location and delivering within a specific geographic area”

  • “I like the smaller delivery zone”

  • “It is one of the only jobs I can do right now to achieve work/life balance.”

  • “Gopuff having its own warehouse and parking makes it easier to simply return to base and continue delivering to earn more money and care for necessities!”

We are proud that the vast majority of delivery partners plan to continue earning with Gopuff for the next year, but our work has only begun. We remain committed to listening to our delivery partners who tell us time and time again that they value their flexibility as independent contractors and are continuously working to improve the experience.
