Election Night 2024: Customers Turn to Champagne to Make it Through The Night
Americans order more alcohol, Tums and ice cream on election night

As many anxious Americans watched the general election results roll in last night, they took to their phones to order on Gopuff. From Champagne and Tums to ice cream and beer, here’s what customers ordered on election night 2024.
Nationwide
Customers often order Gopuff when they’re watching major TV moments, from football Sundays to movie nights and more. That habit remained strong on election night as well: Overall sales were up nearly 20% compared to the average Tuesday. In terms of what customers we’re ordering, the top product categories were alcohol, pain relievers and binge-worthy snacks.
Liquid Courage
With alcohol orders up 37% compared to the average Tuesday, customers were ordering more Champagne, up a whopping 93% as perhaps viewers prepared for some celebrating, wine (orders up by 54%), cocktail mixes (up 49%), and liquor (up 33%).
In addition to product orders, we also saw a huge increase in searches for items like Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir increase by 55%, 20% and 18%, respectively. Searches for Jack Daniel’s specifically were up 62%.
Stress eating, anyone?
Ice cream sales were up by 33% on Tuesday, with Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked being the most popular cold sweet treat of the night. Searches for Jeni’s Ice Cream were also up nearly 90%. Meanwhile, the snack favorites were CBD drinks (orders up by 27%), salty snacks (up 25%), candy (up 14%) and frozen pizza (up 9%).
Getting Heartburn
Whether nerves and an uncertain result were giving customers heartburn, or the ice cream and snacks they were ordering, orders for digestive aids like Tums were up 13% on election night and pain relievers were up 33%. Also unsurprisingly based on alcohol orders, orders for hangover remedies were up nearly 50%. Meanwhile, orders for condoms were down 5%.
State Trends
Narrowing our view, we took a look at a few states to see how customers were behaving on Election night.
Arizona
Order volume increased 12%.
Perhaps seeking comfort, orders for hot cocoa were up 500% and CBD beverages were up 50%.
Arizona wine orders were up 200% and Champagne & Sparkling wine orders were up 105% compared to the average Tuesday.
While orders for condoms were down nationwide, we saw an increase in orders for condoms in Arizona by 62%.
Colorado
Order volume increased 16%.
Preparing for a long night or perhaps seeking some comfort, orders for hot cocoa were up 200% and instant coffee orders were up 500%. Meanwhile, Green and herbal tea orders increased 71%.
Face tissue orders were up 225% and pain reliever orders were up 140%.
Orders for Mezcal increased 500%.
Georgia
Order volume increased 21%.
Finding zen: Orders for green and herbal tea were up 200% on election night and orders for candles and wax melts were up 125%.
Hard and spiked wine orders increased 174% — and hangover remedies were up 163%.
Orders for sleep products were up 125%.
Orders for condoms were up 100% and orders for lube were up 125%.
Michigan
Order volume increased 12%.
Snacking orders were up 500%.
Tuning out? Orders for headphones and headsets were also up 500%.
As customers planned a night in of watching news broadcasts, refrigerated pasta and sauce orders increased a whopping 1,100%.
Nevada
Order volume increased 22%.
Orders for face tissues were up 200%.
Interestingly, orders for baking ingredients increased 500%.
Perhaps preparing for an early morning after a late night of election results viewing, orders for cold brew coffee were up 350%.
As customers likely gathered to watch results together, orders for ice bags increased 125% on Tuesday night in Nevada.
Ohio
Order volume increased 17%.
Self Care: Orders for treatments and face mask orders were up 500%.
Orders for cocktail mixes were up 650%.
Like those in Nevada, as customers in Ohio likely gathered to watch results together, orders for ice bags increased 146%.
Pennsylvania
Order volume increased 20%.
With many glued to their televisions in this key swing state, orders for ‘heat and eat’ meals were up 113%.
Orders for non-alcoholic mixers were up 500% and orders for smoking cessation products increased 100%.
Washington, D.C.
Orders for treatments and face masks were up 500% while acne patches and strips were up 150%.
Orders for both Champagne and cocktail mixes were up 200%.
While orders for condoms nationwide were down slightly, D.C. saw an increase in orders for condoms by 200%.
